Here in Blaenau Ffestiniog and the surrounding area we are blessed with our own unique topography, surroundings and heritage. The town, nestled among a horseshoe of mountains, grew up around the slate industry. Welsh slate products are still in great demand today but the local economy has diversified somewhat with major new leisure and tourist attractions in abundance.

The center of town benefited from a regeneration scheme a few years ago, the end result of which can be seen in some of the photos on this page. It provided a major boost to tourism in the area whilst at the same time establishing a fitting tribute to our heritage and culture. It gave our town it's own unique modern identity whilst being respectful of our past.

The view as you enter town from the station.

Located at the geographical heart of the Snowdonia National Park and surrounded with world class scenery, Blaenau Ffestiniog is now a great place to come to stay, enjoy and explore.

Every place has it's own merits. We are fortunate in that Marks & Spencer, Next, Debenhams et al are yet to discover us but take a lazy stroll down our little "High Street" or up through Church Street and you will discover laid back, honest to goodness shops selling a variety of various items to remind you of your visit and provide you with a special gift for loved ones back home.

We have an award winning Brass Band, two award winning Male Voice Choirs and the area has produced a whole raft of top Welsh language musicians and artistes. Stand in the middle of town, point yourself at a mountain in any direction, take a gentle stroll up for 30 to 40 minutes or so and you will see what helped inspire them all........

There are many information boards like this one scattered in various places around town. Take interesting town walks with information on your smart phone! Start outside the station........
